The useful arts is a somewhat out of style term that talks about crafts and manufacturing in the same way the fine arts = painting, the performing arts = theater, the liberal arts = sociology, etc. Another name for the useful arts is the "vulgar" arts, but that doesn't sound as good lol.
In the 9th century, cooking, architecture, agriculture, tailoring, and blacksmithing were all considered in this category. I'm bringing the term back to acknowledge the care and expertise that it takes to build a craft! I think you'll agree when you try it.
