ZYDEFEST!

Is the first ever Zydeco festival at Zony Mash Beer Project featuring:

Rockin' Dopsie Jr.

"When Rockin' Dopsie, Sr. unexpectedly passed away in 1993, the Dopsie family vowed to keep his memory alive, mainly in the incarnation of this band, Rockin' Dopsie, Jr. & The Zydeco Twisters. In doing so, it's become its own phenomenon. No other zydeco band has ever been fronted by a washboard player. It's usually the accordionist, and it's also a safe bet that there's never been such a flamboyant personality as Rockin' Dopsie, Jr., who can turn a house upside down on a moment's notice."

Arsene Delay

In Arséne DeLay’s voice, you will find the crystal clarity of Ella Fitzgerald crossed with the power of Etta James. The youngest of the Boutté Family, one of the musical dynasties of New Orleans, takes her roots in jazz and soul and combines it with rock and roll, captivating the attention of fans of otherwise exclusive genres.

Al "Carnival Time" Johnson

Alvin Johnson, Sr., best known for his famous song, "Carnival Time," has been a New Orleans Mardi Gras icon for over 40 years. A Rhythm & Blues performer, Al is a New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival veteran and has worked with the likes of Aaron Neville, Oliver Morgan, Bobby Lonero as well as (the late Tommy Ridgley, Jessie Hill, Bobby Mitchell, Eddie Bo & Ernie K-Doe)

Al has performed on the "Louisiana Jukebox" TV program and been the star of a highly successful Louisiana Lottery Mardi Gras campaign. Al has also been the subject of numerous articles in Mardi Gras Guide, New Orleans Magazine, Offbeat Magazine, The Louisiana Weekly, The Times Picayune, and Gambit Weekly.

Charlie Wooton's Zydefunk

Bassist, producer, songwriter, bandleader and devoted Hartke artist Charlie Wooton is a bred-in-the-bone Louisiana musician, having grown up in a musical family in Lafayette – down in “Cajun Country.” Now he lives in New Orleans, after productive stints in Los Angeles and Atlanta. Wooton, born in 1970, has played with a who’s who of top Louisiana musicians, from guitarist Sonny Landreth and drummer Johnny Vidacovich to such bands as Bonerama and Royal Southern Brotherhood, the latter featuring one of his heroes – Cyril Neville (from one of the great New Orleans musical families, the Neville Brothers). While in Royal Southern Brotherhood, Wooton recorded four albums and toured the world, along with writing one of the band’s signature tunes, “Fired Up.” Wooton has been producing LPs by other artists in recent years, and the bassist has his own new Charlie Wooton Project album out, Blue Bosso (Wild Heart Records).
